Upload ISO Image VMware vSphere Datastore. In this blog, I will show you how to upload an ISO image to a datastore managed by VMware Center. Using the vSphere Client so that you can use it to install an operating system on your virtual machine.

Upload ISO Image to Datastore

The below steps I have been tested in my VMware vSphere ESXi 7 host managed by VMware vCenter version 7 of the VMware vCenter Server.

1- Login to the VMware vCenter Server by using its IP address or FQDN domain name into a web browser and then on click launch the vSphere Client (HTML5).

2- Type your VMware vCenter Server username, password and then click the Login button.

How to create folder to store ISO images

In the below steps, I am going to create a folder on my VMware vSphere datastore named ISO Images to store my upload ISO images.

3- After login to the VMware vCenter server, then click on Storage icon.

4- Select your datastore where you want to create a new folder and upload ISO images, so select Files tab and then select New Folder.

5- Type a folder name and then click on OK.

6- Select the newly created folder name ISO Images and then click on the Upload Files tab.

7- Browse your local computer for an ISO image the one you want to upload and then click on Open.

8- Now you can see the ISO image start uploading. Wait for the progress bar to complete 100%.

9- The ISO file has been upload successfully; now you will see the ISO image in the ISO Images folder.

How to Configure Virtual Tape Library StarWind

In this article, I will configure the VTL StarWind Virtual Tape Library Software. Read my previous blog about how to Install Starwind.

StarWind Virtual Tape Library Configure

1- Run the StarWind Management Console and Click on Add Device (advanced).

2- Add Device Wizard, choose Tap Device option and click on Next Button.

3- Select Virtual Tape and click next.

4- Select create a new virtual tape library, click on … button to select the VTL location and click next.

5- Select virtual tape device model and click next.

6- Virtual tape Target Parameters for Connection, click on next button.

7- Click the create button to create the Device and wait for sometimes to complete the virtual tape process.

9- By Default it will create lots of tapes so we need to remove tapes.

14- Open server manager, select tools and then click iSCSI initiator.

16- The target iSCSI has been connected and then click on done button.

17- Click ok.

18- Open device manager, you can see tape device is showing and we need to install tape drive driver.

HPE StoreEver Tape Driver

19- Now we need to install Tape Library Driver, first we need to download the HPE StoreEver tape driver Download Driver from HPE Official Website.

20- Double click on HPE Driver Setup file to run the setup.

21- Click on Extract button

22- Select the folder where you want to extract the HPE StoreEver Tape driver and then click ok.

23- Open extracted file folder and then double click on setup file to install tape driver.

24- HPE Tape drivers showing, so click on install button.

25- HPE Tape Driver installed, so click on OK button.

26- Click Exit.

27- HPE Tape driver successfully installed.

2- Install – Stage 2: Set up vCenter Server, so click the next button to begin the vCenter Server process.

3- vCenter Server configuration, Select synchronize time with NTP server, type your NTP server IP address, Enable the SSH access and then click next.

4- vCenter IP Address change warning, so click ok

5- vCenter Server SSO configuration, Select Create a new SSO domain, type the single sin on domain name, Type the SSO password and then click next.

6- Configure CEIP option, so click next.

7- Review the vCenter Server settings and then click finish to finalize the setup.

8- Setup vCenter Server 7 warning, click ok to continue.

9- Install – Stage 2: vCenter Server setup is in progress.

10- Install – Stage 2: vCenter Server 7 has been complete successfully, so click close.

11- To access the vCenter server 7. Open your browser type your vCenter Server address.

12- Type vCenter Server username [email protected], password and then click the Login button.

13- Now you can see the vSphere vCenter Server 7 Dashboard.

How to Deploy VMware vCenter Server 7 Part-1

Deploy VMware vCenter Server, in this 2 part series 1 deploy vCenter and 2 Setup vCenter Server 7. The vCenter Server is a preconfigured Linux virtual machine. Which is optimized for running VMware vCenter Server and the associated services on Linux. When we deploy a Platform Services Controller, we can create a VMware vCenter Single Sign-On domain or join an existing domain.

vCenter Server 7 Prerequisites

Before proceeding with the installation of the VMware vCenter Server 7. We need to configure the A record in your DNS Server Manager that points to the new vCenter Server.

1- Open your DNS Server Manager, expand your DNS server, right click on your local domain and select create a new Host A record.

I am planning to install VMware vCenter Server 7 on ESXi 7 Host, so I need to create Host A record for ESXi 7 host and VCSA (VMware vCenter Server 7)

2- Type your ESXi 7 Hostname and IP address, checkbox Create associated pointer (PTR) record and then click Add host.

3- After creating host a record for ESXi 7 Host, now we need to create a new host A record for VMware vCenter Server 7, Type your vCenter name, IP address, checkbox Create associated pointer (PTR) record and then click Add host.

4- Review your DNS name and IP address under your local domain name.

5- Reverse lookup zones also updated.

6- Check your Host A record by pinging ESXi-01.xpertstec.local

7- Check your Host A record by pinging vcenter.xpertsts.local

Install VMware vCenter Server 7

For deploying the VMware vCenter Server 7, first, we need to download VMware vSphere 7.ISO format, Download VMware vSphere 7. Mount your vSphere ISO and select the appropriate installer based on the OS from which the installation is executed.

Stage 1 – Deploy vCenter Server 7
Stage 2 – Set up vCenter Server 7

Install – Stage 1: Deploy vCenter Server

8- I am installing on ESXi 7 using Windows Server, Browse vCenter Server 7 ISO, open the vcsa-ui-installer directory, win32 directory and double click on installer.exe to run the setup.

9- From the vCenter Server 7 installer wizard, click Install to start with the installation of a new VMware vCenter Server 7.

10- Install – Stage 1: Deploy vCenter Server introduction option, then click on Next.

11- End user license, select I Accept the terms of the license agreement and then click on Next.

12- Specify the target ESXi 7 host where you want to install the vCenter server, type the username, password and then click on Next.

13- Click Yes to accept the SSL certificate from the selected host.

14- Type the VM name for the vCenter Server 7 and type the password in the Set root password field and then click next to continue.

15- In my Lab environment, I select the tiny Deployment size and the default Storage size and then click Next.

16- Select your datastore to use, select enable thin disk mode and then click next.

17- Configure your vCenter server network settings and then click next.

18- Review the settings of vCenter deployment details and then click the finish button to start the installation.

19- The vCenter server 7 is deploying in the specified target system.

20- When Stage 1 has been completed successfully, next step I will continue the Stage 2 installation.

How to Connect Openfiler iSCSI Storage ESXi 7

Openfiler iSCSI Storage ESXi 7, In this article I am going to connect Openfiler to VMware ESXi 7 Host as iscsi storage using VMware ESXi host.

1- Open web browser, type your ESXi host name or IP Address, type username and password and click log in.

2- After login ESXi host, Select Network options, select Virtual switches tab and click Add standard virtual switch.

3- Type a vSwitch name, select your network adapter uplink and click the add button.

4- Virtual switch successfully created.

5- Networking option, select VMkernel NICs tab and click add VMKernel NIC

6- VMkernel NIC wizard, type new port group, select newly created vSwitch1, under IPv4 Settings, click static, type IP Address, subnet mask and then click the create button.

7- VMware NICs successfully created.

8- Select Storage options, Adapter tab and then click Software iSCSI.

9- Select iSCSI enabled, select dynamic targets option, click add the dynamic target, type your openfiler iSCSI storage IP Address and then click save the configuration.

10- Storage option, As you can see Openfiler device shows under the devices tab.

11- Storage option, click Datastore tab and then click new datastore.

12- New datastore wizard, select create new VMFS datastore and then click on Next.

13- Type a datastore name, select Openfiler iSCSI disk and then click on Next.

14- Select partitioning options, use full disk or custom, so select the VMFS version and then click next.

15- Review the Openfiler iSCSI storage ESXi datastore details and then click Finish to complete the process.

How to Download VMware vSphere ESXi 7 Host

First, we would like to create an account, after creating an account you can download the trial version for 60 days.

How to create a Virtual Machine in VMware Workstation, so change the boot option from the bios to boot from ISO.

3- Press enter to start the installation

4- So, press the F11 key to accept the user license

5- Its start scanning for the available devices

6- Select a disk to install ESXI 7, and then press enter

7- Keyboard layout and then press enter to continue

8- Type a root password, confirm password and then press enter to continue

9- The installer is configured to install VMware ESXI 7, so press F11 to start the installation

10- The VMware ESXi 7 installation in progress and it will take a few minutes to complete

11- ESXi 7 installation successfully completed, please remove the installation media and then press enter to reboot the host

12- The ESXi 7 host server is rebooting

13- After successfully installed

Configure VMware ESXi 7

14- Once we have our VMware ESXi 7 host installed we need to configure, Press F2 for all options. F12 to restart and then turn off the VMware ESXi 7 host, Press F2, type your root password and press enter to continue

15- Configure Management Network option and press enter

16- IPv4 Configuration option and press enter

17- VMware ESXi 7, Choose set static IPv4 address and network configuration, type your IP Address, subnet mask, default gateway, and press enter

18- IPv6 Configuration option and press enter

19- I recommend that you disable IPv6 (restart required) and press enter

20- DNS Configuration option and press enter

21- Enter primary DNS server IP Address, hostname and press enter

22- Choose a custom DNS suffixes option and hit enter

23- Type your custom DNS suffixes and hit enter

24- Press the Esc button, then press the Y button to apply changes and reboot host

25- ESXi host restarting

26- Now the VMware ESXi 7 host configuration completed

27- Now you can type your VMware ESXi 7 hostname or IP Address in your browser and access your ESXi 7 with the web client, type your root user name and password and click the Login button

28- Now VMware ESXi 7 host is ready

How to Add ESXi Host VMware vCenter Server 7

In this blog, I will be able to add an ESXi host 7 to the vCenter Server inventory, so as to make a vSphere environment and use vSphere features. This ESXi host doesn’t have any special configuration, but I would like to manage this host through our vCenter Server and therefore the vSphere client.

1- First we need to add a new host in our DNS Manager, right-click your local domain and select New Host (A or AAAA).

2- Type your ESXI host 7 hostnames, IP Address, checkbox Create associated pointer (PTR) record and click the Add Host button.

3- Open your VMware vSphere vCenter, right-click your Datacenter object, select Action menu and then select Add Host.

4- Type the hostname or IP address of your ESXi 7 Host and then click Next

5- Type your ESXi 7 host user name (root) and password. That we created during the installation of the ESXi host and then click Next.

6- Click Yes to accept the default security certificate.

7- Review the Host Summary and click next.

8- The default evaluation license option, click next

9- Select Lockdown mode Disabled and then click next

10- Select VM location, so click next

11- Review the details and then click the finish button to complete the process.

12- We have successfully added our ESXi 7 host.

4- Now Under deployment type, Select the vCenter Server and Embedded platform services controller and then click on Next.

5- Type your fully qualified domain name in the System Name field and then click on Next.

6- vCenter Single Sign-On configuration, Now Leaves it as the default vsphere.local (not the same as your Active Directory name). Type your password for the SSO administrator account and then click on Next.

7- vCenter Server Service Account, select use Windows local system account and then click on Next.

8- Select the use of an embedded database (VMware Postgres) and then click on Next.

10- Select the destination directory where you want to install vCenter services and then click on Next.

11- Now check or uncheck the VMware Customer Experience Improvement Program and then click on Next.

13- Your vCenter Server is successfully installed, so click on Finish.

1- Open browser, type your vCenter fully qualified name or IP Address, type username and password and then click on login.

2- After login to your vCenter Server, so under home tab click Hosts and Clusters.

3- Click on ESXi host, Select Configure tab, under Networking, select virtual switches and then click on Add Networking.

4- Select the VMkernel Network Adapter and then click Next.

5- Select new standard switch and click next.

6- Click the + sign to assign network adapter.

7- Select Network adapters and click ok.

8- I have selected one adapter (you can select multiple adapters) click next.

9- Type a Network name and click next.

10- Select use static IPv4 setting and type the IP address, subnet mask and click next.

11- Review the settings and click the finish button to complete the switch configuration.

12- Now vSwitch1 has been created successfully.

Connect Openfiler iSCSI Storage

13- Under Storage, Click on Storage Adapters, Click on + Add Software Adapter to enable software iSCSI adapter.

14- Click the ok button.

15- Select iSCSI software adapter, under dynamic discovery, click the + add the button to add storage target iSCSI server.

16- Type the IP address of your iSCSI server and then click ok.

17- Select the rescan storage tab.

18- Click ok.

19- Click the + Add button under Network Port Blinding to select Network Adapter.

20- Select the VMkernel network adapter and then click OK.

21- Click on rescan storage tab to see configuration changes.

22- Click ok.

23- Select storage devices under storage to see 2 devices shown.

24- Select ESXi Host, storage adapter, Action menu, click storage and then click new Datastore.

25- Select the datastore type and click next.

26- Type datastore name, select one of openfiler iSCSI disk and then click next.

27- Select VMFS version and click next.

28- Select datastore size and click next.

29- Review the new datastore configuration and click finish to complete the process.

30- Datastore LUN has been added successfully.

19- Select the IPv6 configuration option and then press enter.

20- I recommend that if can disable IPv6 (restart required) and so press enter.

21- Select the DNS Configuration option and then press enter.

22- Type your primary DNS server IP Address, hostname and press enter.

23- Select custom DNS suffixes option and then press enter.

24- Type custom DNS suffixes and then press enter.

25- Press the Esc button, Press the Y button to apply changes and then reboot the host.

26- Now the VMware ESXi 6.7 host configuration completed.

27- Now you can type your ESXi hostname or IP Address in your browser and access your ESXi with the web client, so type your root user name and password and click the Login button.

28- Now VMware vSphere ESXi 6.7 host is ready.

How to create a virtual machine for the android emulator in VMware Workstation 15

In this guide, I am going to create a new virtual machine for the android emulator in the VMware workstation to install an Android emulator.

1- Open VMware Workstation, select the file tab and choose a new virtual machine.

2- Select the custom settings and click next.

3- Leave the default settings for the virtual machine hardware compatibility version and click on next.

4- Select I will install the operating system later and click on next.

5- Under the guest operating system, select other options, under version, select the other 64-bit and click on next.

6- Type a name for the virtual machine, choose a location to save or leave it as the default and click on next.

7- Choose the number of processes for the virtual machine, the cores per processor and click next.

8- Select the memory you want to assign to the virtual machine and click on next.

9- Select the network type, leave it to default and then click on Next.

10- Select the SCSI controller. Select LSI Logic (recommended) and then click on Next.

11- Select the Disk type, IDE (Recommended) and then click on Next.

12- Select create a new virtual disk option for the virtual machine and then click on Next.

13- Specify the disk capacity (20 GB) and then click on Next.

14- Specify the disk file and then click on Next.

15- Ready to create a virtual machine for the installation, of the Android operating system, so click customize hardware.

16- Select CD/DVD (IDE) settings and click the browse button to select your downloaded android iso image file.

17- Select the display settings and enable 3D graphics, graphic memory, This is very important for the Android Operating System to run, click close and then click finish.
