    What is Exchange Admin Center and how to login it?


    The Exchange Admin Center (EAC) is a web-based management console for managing Exchange Online, Exchange Server, and hybrid Exchange deployments. It replaces the Exchange Control Panel (ECP) and the Exchange Management Console (EMC), which were the previous management interfaces for Exchange.

    The EAC allows you to perform various tasks, such as:

    • Manage recipients, groups, mailboxes, contacts, and resources.
    • Configure mail flow settings like connectors, transport rules, and delivery reports.
    • Manage organization settings, such as sharing policies, address lists, and retention policies.
    • Monitor the health and performance of your Exchange environment, such as queues, databases, and servers.
    • Perform migration tasks, such as moving mailboxes, public folders, and data from other sources.
    • Access other admin centres, such as Security & Compliance Center, Azure Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 admin centre.

    To access the EAC, you need to have an administrator account that has the appropriate role assignments. For more information on role-based access control in Exchange, see Role-based access control (RBAC) in Exchange Online.

    There are two ways to access the EAC for Exchange Online:

    • Sign in to your Microsoft 365 or Office 365 account > Admin Centers > Exchange. This will take you to the new EAC, a modern and streamlined interface that offers most of the features of the classic EAC. See the New Exchange admin centre for more information on the new EAC.
    • Directly visit the link outlook and sign in using your credentials. This will take you to the classic EAC, the original interface offering all the features of Exchange Online management. See the Classic Exchange admin centre for more information on the classic EAC.

    To access the EAC for Exchange Server or hybrid Exchange deployments, you need to use the URL of the EAC virtual directory on your Mailbox server. The URL is controll by the Internet Information Services (IIS) virtual directory named ECP. You can modify these URLs according to your needs. For more information on configuring the EAC virtual directory settings, see Configure mail flow and client access on Exchange servers.

    You need to use a supported browser to access the EAC from a web browser on your local computer or a remote computer. The supported browsers for the new EAC are:

    • Microsoft Edge
    • Microsoft Edge
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Apple Safari

    What is the Classic Exchange Admin Center?

    To monitor and administer Microsoft Exchange Server efficiently, administrators can use the web-based Classic Exchange Admin Centre (EAC), a program created by Microsoft. It functioned as the main management interface for Exchange Server versions 2013 and prior. Administrators could perform various operations with the help of the Classic EAC’s graphical user interface (GUI), including managing mailboxes, creating distribution groups, configuring mail flows, and keeping track of the Exchange environment’s general health. However, with the introduction of Exchange Server 2016, the Classic EAC was replaced by the Exchange Admin Centre (EAC), which offers improved capabilities and a more contemporary UI.

    Why is the Exchange Admin Center not loading?

    Various possible causes exist for the Exchange Admin Centre (EAC) failing to load. Here are some potential reasons and solutions:


    Problems with connectivity:

    Check your internet connection and try visiting the EAC from a different browser or device. Check for any network or firewall limitations that may prevent EAC access.


    Server or service problems:

    The EAC uses the Exchange Server infrastructure. If server issues or Exchange services are not working, the EAC may not load. Ensure all relevant Exchange services are up and functioning, and restart them if necessary.


    Browser compatibility:

    The EAC may not be compatible with all browsers. Check that you’re using a compatible browser version, and try emptying your cache and cookies. Disabling browser extensions or add-ons that interfere with the EAC may also be beneficial.

    Incorrect URL or virtual directory setup:

    Check the URL you’re using to go to the EAC. Depending on your Exchange version, it should be “https:///ecp” or “https:///owa/ecp”. Furthermore, confirm that the virtual directory settings in Internet Information Services (IIS) are appropriately establish.

    Why is the Global Address List not loading in the Exchange Admin Center?

    The GAL is distributed across multiple Exchange servers in an organization. If there are replication delays between these servers, it can result in the GAL not being updated or not loading in the EAC.     Incorrect GAL configuration:

    Exchange server issues:

    Ensure that the Exchange servers responsible for hosting the GAL are functioning correctly. Check if the Exchange services related to address book generation and distribution are running. Restarting these services or the affected Exchange servers may help resolve the issue.

    Network connectivity problems:

    Confirm that there are no network connectivity issues between the server hosting the EAC and the Exchange servers hosting the GAL. Troubleshoot any network problems, such as DNS resolution issues or firewall restrictions, that might prevent the EAC from accessing the GAL.

You can visit the Go Daddy site and purchase an SSL Certificate. Then I will install the certificate that we have purchased on-line from a third party and apply it to the services that we can run such as Outlook Web Access (OWA). Note that if you plan to use the mobile device to sync email with exchange 2013/2016/2019 then you must buy an SSL certificate.

    How to Create a Certificate Request in Exchange

    When we want to create a certificate request then what we are doing is creating a request for a certificate that we can provide to the third-party likes of Go Daddy that tells them to create a certificate that trusts the domain names that we specify. Below steps I will create a certificate so that internal users of Outlook can connect to the internal Exchange 2013/2016/2019 server name, use Autodiscover to auto-configure Outlook, we will also add to the certificate request the external domain we will user for OWA. In this situation we will use the domain https://mail.domain.com (this is used for example).

    To Generate a Certificate Signing Request – Exchange Server 2013/2016/2019

    1- Log in to your Exchange Admin Center.
    From the left menu, click on Servers, and then select Certificates.
    Select the + sign to start the Exchange Certificate wizard.

    3- Type a unique name to identify the certificate, and then click next.

    4- If your CSR is for a godaddy wildcard certificate, Choose Request a wildcard certificate, type the root domain name, and then click next. Otherwise, click next.

    8- This screen shows you what domains will be connected to with this certificate. I am only going to use the Outlook Web App (OWA), it matters not as we can change the domains we want on the next screen. Click next

    9- This step is important; you want to make sure you have the following in your certificate request. (Example: mail.domain.com, Autodiscover.domain.com, Domain.com). Basically, we need to add or select any address that you will reference our exchange server as or connect to as. Click next

    Organization name – Provide your company or organization.
    Department name – Provide the Department name, responsible for the certificate.
    Country/Region name – Provide the country where the organization is registered.
    City/Locality – Provide the name of the city where the organization is registered.
    State/Province – Provide the name of the state/province where the organization is registered. Click Next

    11- This step will ask you where you want to save the request file. This is that file that we will provide to the third party for SSL Certificate. Please save it in your local share and provide a valid name and then click finish.

    What SSL Provider Should I Use?

    I have purchased unified SSL certificates for clients numerous times, they auto-renew the certificate yearly so you will not get issues with certificates expiring as you receive a notification. When you purchase bare in mind that you can normally purchase for 3 or 5 years, the longer you purchase for the cheaper they are and less admin work each year. You can use Certificates on all previous Exchange Servers also. Now I will go with Godaddy.

    Paste all of the text, including —-BEGIN NEW CERTIFICATE REQUEST—- and —-END CERTIFICATE REQUEST—-, in our online application. Select Add change.

    How to complete the Exchange 2013/2016/2019 Certificate Request?

    19- Select your SSL certificate pending request and then hit the complete button on the far right-hand side.

    21- The certificate successfully imported, now we need to decide what services the certificate will apply to. You can select the SMTP and IIS if you are using OWA; I am using the defaults here which are SMTP, IMAP, POP and IIS.

    Exchange 2013/2016/2019 is set up to use the certificate the one we have applied for and will use it when Outlook clients connect over SMTP and when connected over OWA using IIS. The process is now complete.

You might need to change the network settings for this connection.

    Solving – Using Device Manager

    1- Press the Windows key + X key together on your keyboard or right-click on the Windows start button and then select Device Manager from the context menu.

    2- On the Device Manager, scroll down & expand the Network adapters. Now, right-click on WAN Miniport (IKEv2) and then click on the Uninstall device from the menu.

    4- Reiterate the same process as shown in # 2 to Uninstall the device for all the WAN Miniports are listed below one by one.

    5- Now, Select the Action menu at the top of the window and choose Scan for hardware changes from the context menu. Or right-click on network adapters and then select scan for hardware changes (see in the below 2nd diagram)

    6- After scanning the hardware changes this will re-install all the WAN Miniports (IP, IPv6, L2TP, Network Monitor, PPPOE, PPTP, SSTP) again as it was previously. So, essentially, it installs them afresh and now your VPN should work back again.

    In this blog, I will be able to configure database backup and restore the mailbox database and recover the whole database and emails using Windows Server Backup.

    First of all, we’d like to install the Windows Server Backup role.

    1- Open powershell and type the below command to enable the windows server backup role.

    Restoring the Entire Mailbox Database.

    11- Login to Exchange admin center and select the Servers tab and select the database and select … and then click on Dismount.

    24- Select delete database and log files and select delete.

    In this blog, we will take a look at how to configure database copies in the new DAG.

    At this stage, we have a database availability group with two Mailbox servers and one database.

    Now we want to configure a database copy so, it will replicate to the 2nd DAG member.

    Now we need to verify the same storage path exists on the server we are adding the database copy to.

    Exchange Database File Path – E:\Mailbox\EXCHDB\EXCHDB.edb
    Exchange Log Folder Path – F:\Mailbox

    E: and F: created on the second exchange server.

    1- Log on to Exchange Admin Center and select the Servers tab and select Databases and select “…” icon and select Add database copy.

    2- So under the specified mailbox server click Browse.

    3- Select the mailbox server to want to add a copy to and click on ok.

    4- In the Action preference number select 2 and click on the Save button to add the database copy.

    5- Now you can see the file paths on the server that you are adding the database copy to and you will also see the seeding files as the database and the transaction log files are copied across.

    6- Because a small database will not take more than a few minutes to finish saving. Larger databases or slower networks will take long. After saving completed successfully click on close.

    When the operation complete the second server is going to be hosting a passive database copy that’s maintained, so far through a process of continuous replication from the active database copy.

    7- Now you will see the two servers have copies of the database.

    In this blog, we’ll go through the installation of Exchange 2019 Database Availability Group with two-node members. The DAG will have a Primary network as well as one replication network. The file share witness is another member server in the domain that has no Exchange 2019 server roles installed. I am using my domain controller as a file share witness server.

    First, we need to prepare the Environment for the DAG

    1- I have two networks one Primary and one Replication for my DAG replication for all the nodes which I am planning to add in DAG.

    Now we are creating a DAG in Exchange Server 2019.

    The Exchange Trusted Subsystem should be a member of the local Administrator group on the specified witness server.

    18- Open active directory users and computers > expand domain controller > select Microsoft Exchange Security Group and then right Exchange Trusted Subsystem and select properties.

    22- Login to Exchange Admin Center > select Servers > select Database Availability Groups and select + add button.

    23- Type DAG name > Witness Server Name > Witness Location > Add Two DAG IP Address (Static IP for the DAG)

    1 for Primary Site and 1 for DR site

    If you have different subnet or different classes of IP Addresses on either Sites.
    Have Two IP addresses for the DAG so that DAG resource can be online while failover on either site If you have only one Subnet then you can have only one IP Address for the DAG.

    24- Now my DAG Configuration is Ready and Add a member to it > Select Manage DAG Membership.
